The Information You Consume
Three main sources that I use for my daily dose of media and information hops around from TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. These sources can differ from their level of reliability. I would say anything I learn from these sources is taken with a gran of salt. Personal Fact checking comes into play when I use these sources for my own personal gain of information.
Fake news is constantly revolving throughout the media and especially social media. This is rather concerning when dealing with mis information and spreading it to others. It is rather hard to indicate if something learned is accurate without personal fact checking. A personal objective of mine is to read through comments, gathering others' opinions, then using search engines to gather more information to fact check what I have learned.
From the TED Talk by Eli Pariser, "What Obligation Do Social Media Platforms Have to the Greater Good?" ; One can take this specific topic and piece together their opinions on the benefits of social media. Personally, I rather enjoy the use of TikTok because this platform allows for opinions from all around the world on different topics. This is a benefit from the use of social media, because it allows people to gather in a digital space, beside demographic to come together to spread ideas and discourse of many different subjects. One can inherently gather information that they once couldn't without the connection between so many different people.
